What's the Beef?!

If anyone recalls the Wendy's 1984 commercial with Clara Peller's phrase, "Where's the Beef?!" It was an iconic phrase that brought Clara Peller a manicurist amd actress to fame along with the phrase. It was in lieu of considering and implying that other fast food burger places may not be giving you what you'd expected when ordering a hamburger out.

Today, its the prices of the beef. My thought today was, 'What's with the Beef...prices?' I will quote my middle school French teacher, "Oooohhh Lala!" When she was wondering why you'd barely passed yesterday's French quiz after much review, as she'd handed back our marked up quiz papers.

I went to the store today perchance to find the multipack water filter faucet sink version I had a coupon for, and to take a looksee at the organic beef prices and the beef prices in general. I had found that a little more than three weeks ago, a first buying beef at this local supermarket in over a year had passed, that their organic beef price were quite reasonable to my surprise. To boot, they had one of the lowest prices in beef ribs in about seven years or so; however, today the price of their beef ribs doubled since three weeks ago. What was $11.97 was now over $24. Their organic prime rib two pieces were on sale for $10.97 with today's sell by date on them. Those two pieces prices were up over another $1-$2 from three weeks ago, which was for under a pound. It was either 10 or 8 ounces each piece. And another organic beef brand was now up by $4 or so for the same size three weeks ago.

Between the potential beef craving I'd had for only the 3rd time since October 2025, I stood stunned as I began to look at all the beef prices. I noticed steaks that I hadn't ventured to buy for about the past seven years, were now 3x the price as they had been in 2018/2019. Those weren’t organic either. Seven years ago I could've gotten the same item as organic for half the price it was today.

I nearly walked out empty handed. I came in for three things, I left with one item. I decided, I'll wait a week and enjoy my canned fishes with my own version of a protein filled delicacy... Organic diced pickles, Wild Planet Skip Jack Tuna in Water and organic sundried tomatoes in olive oil. With an aside of some cut up White Oak Cheddar cheese for my protein, and my own Organic olive oil, sliced red onions, organic carrots and organic frozen broccoli as my regular hot meal.

By the way, I buy my canned fishes in bulk directly from the company, free shipping and about 25-30% less cost than the in-store prices.

My question is not "Where's the Beef?!" Its "What the Beef?!" Why such high beef prices? I thought... 'How about them egg prices?' Those people who thought it wise to allow a criminal on the ballot and voted for and elected him... Oh well, its not on me. I'll be enjoying my healthy low fat, mostly organic dietary dishes. ---Jody-Lynn Reicher

  2. I rarely do. I'll go a year and no beef. Its mostly canned fishes, a little chicken of 3 servings a month, that's it.

2023 Holiday Letter from the Reicher's

Well, I didn't think I'd be doing a Holiday Letter this year, but here goes... The Spirit of Norm is in the air. As the wind whips with minus a true snowstorm.  In hopes the Farmers Almanac was correct, I pray to the snow gods. Rain ensued the month of December thus far. We have nearly tripled the amount of rainfall usual for December in New Jersey. And I've witnessed its treachery. Storms such as these hit us hardest in July. Then remained fairly intense through til about early October.  Our daughters are doing well, Thank God.  Their Dad would be proud of them. Our oldest Sarah, now a Junior at UCLA pursuing her degree in Chemical Engineering. She's digging the whole California scene. Which I thought it was for her. She's had some good traveling on her off times from school. For her March 2023 week off, she drove her and a few friends out to Lake Tahoe and went downhill skiing for a first in nearly 5 years. She had to rent the ski equipment.  Funny enough when ...

"It’s the Hardest Thing..."

My friend since 1996, neighbor and pet care person texted back, "It's the hardest thing...". She texted back the morning just hours prior to my decision to have our last pet euthanized. It's not something I'd ever done. Although I've been told I have a killer instinct. Which I've discovered over the past 20 years that would be true. A promoter said that to my fight coach after my first cage fight. The promoter saw the charged smile on my face after I'd just lost to a decision. I am disciplined, so thank God for that. My feeling is we all have that, but not the amount I've discovered I have, and most certainly most do not have the obsessive level of discipline I have had or have. Fast forward to yesterday afternoon holding our bunny for quite sometime before her sedation in a veterinary treatment room.  About 20 minutes later the vet and vet tech arrived finding a spot to inject a sedative into our pet bunny. They said it would take ten minutes, th...
